National redress scheme ‘welcome’

07 Nov 2016
The Anglican Primate of Australia, Melbourne Archbishop Philip Freier, has welcomed the proposed national independent redress scheme for survivors of child sexual abuse announced by Federal Social Services Minister Christian Porter on Friday.
Archbishop Freier said the Anglican Church thought the proposal a very positive development, and he encouraged the various state governments to join with the Commonwealth so that Australia could have a truly national scheme that would better address  the needs of survivors of child sexual abuse.
“However, there is still a considerable amount of detail to be released, so at this point we can only say that we strongly support the proposal in principle,” Archbishop Freier said.
